 FUNDRAISING RAFFLE FOR SUDAN

I’ve decided to round off the year with one last fundraiser: a raffle to win one of my recent creations with all funds going to the Khartoum Aid Kitchen based in Sudan.

This fundraiser won’t be open for very long, so if you’d like to join in, be sure to do so this week as the raffle will close and be drawn on Sunday 21st December and the prize will be posted out on Monday, in the hopes that it’ll reach you this side of Christmas!

To enter, simply purchase a raffle ticket; each £2.50 donation ticket will provide an entry. If you donate £2.50, that’s one - £5 for two, £10 for four, £25 for ten.

ENTER THE RAFFLE

The prize is a copper and brass bauble, made by myself. It doesn’t have to just be a Christmas decoration. In fact quite a few people keep them up all year round! I’ve not sold these as individual items before, but the workshop to make them is priced at £65.

What’s happening in Sudan?

The Sudanese are living through catastrophe after catastrophe, due to the conflict between two militias for control. The RSF, a UAE funded militia, is tearing through Sudan committing all sorts of heinous human rights violations, along with causing an extended period of famine too. The end of October saw the RSF take over the city of El-Fasher, and massacre of over 2,000 citizens in the space of two days, estimates reached over 60,000 in three weeks, as they closed in. Violence so horrific that the bloodstains on the ground could be seen from satellites in space. At present, aid and humanitarian organisations are still unable to reach El-Fasher but groups are trying to make progress on this.

Since this specific wave of violence broke out in Darfur, the folks at Khartoum Aid Kitchen have been working to receive the displaced folks who were able to escape.

As the two militias fight and the Sudanese bear the brunt of the violence, it’s even more important that we consider our purchases and who we support. A global call has been made to boycott the UAE, especially Dubai. For example, the RSF benefit heavily from the control they have over the vast Sudanese gold mines; it is largely down to the wealth they have gained from these mines and the partnership this created with UAE, which allows them to continue funding the devastation.

The call asks for an end to holidays in Dubai, no Dubai chocolate, no supporting celebrities who are trying to soften the UAE’s image and definitely no jewellery from Dubai. Speaking with our money is the quickest way to enact change - for those that don’t listen to protest and humanity, profits talk. So, alongside contributing to this fundraiser, be sure to keep this in mind too.

**this gold is traded with the UAE and Dubai, an industry of theirs that heavily lines their pockets, but the Sudanese reap no reward from. Dubai is known for as being a global hub for huge quantities of lavish gold jewellery yet the origins of it are kept very quiet. It is very easy to exploit gold - as soon as it’s melted, all origins are lost. There is no way to tell where it is from, and what trouble it caused along the way.

Ts & Cs

This raffle is not affiliated with anyone including social media.

None of your personal information will be shared. The required information on the form is for me to contact you to let you know if you’ve won, and for me to be able to post out the prize quickly.

Unfortunately, at this point in time, this is a post-to-UK-only raffle - if you’d like to wish to donate anyway, please do; that would be wonderful!

The prize will be drawn at 8pm GMT, Sunday 21st December. The prize will be posted out the following day.
