Dimensions: roughly 23.5mm x 14mm. Each piece is hand cut so may vary slightly. The piece pictured is the first one I made.
Sterling silver pin with sterling silver grip back.
Proceeds will be split as follows - £10 to go towards materials, postage, card processing costs; £25 will go towards an organisation supporting Palestine. The proceeds from the first ten pins will go towards ‘Connecting Humanity’, an organisation supplying e-sims in Gaza. this organisation is one of the vital lifelines throughout Israel’s repeated media blackouts. Connecting Humanity allows families to stay in touch, emergencies to be communicated, journalists to help share the latest updates with the rest of the world, among other uses. So far, they have provided more than 430,000 e-sims since they started on 28th October 2023.
These pins will be made in batches of 10. If they’re sold out when you reach the link, send me an email and I shall let you know as soon as the next batch is available.
These pins take inspiration from a poem by Refaat Alareer, Palestinian writer, activist and academic. He was murdered in December 2023 after being targeted by the IDF for a significant period of time. I am usually not one to feel much for poetry, but this is one of two poems to ever light something deep within.
If I must die,
you must live
to tell my story
to sell my things
to buy a piece of cloth
and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail)
so that a child, somewhere in Gaza
while looking heaven in the eye
awaiting his dad who left in a blaze —
and bid no one farewell
not even to his flesh
not even to himself —
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above,
and thinks for a moment an angel is there
bringing back love.
If I must die
let it bring hope,
let it be a tale.
